Steed Mystery Theatre

(Door creaks open slowly. Man's low voice with an English accent says...)

Welcome to the Steed Mystery Theatre. Tonight we will be telling the dark and scary tale of an unsolved mystery at the Steed residence. It is a tale filled with blood and horror, set in the darkness of the night. Readers beware.

This mystery takes place in the former residence of our heroes, Jeff and Stephanie Steed. Jeff is a dashingly handsome man who is studying to become a dentist. He likes pina coladas and kissing in the rain. Stephanie is a strikingly intelligent woman who is studying to become a psychologist. She likes long walks on the beach.

(Creepy music playing)

Jeff and Stephanie lived apparently normal lives. During the day they each went to school and work, and then returned home to their small apartment in Provo, UT. Even though their apartment was small, they loved it. It was a comfy, cozy place where they felt like they were safe. Or so they thought...but these thoughts of safety and security were soon dashed to pieces.

Stephanie awoke one morning, and went into the bathroom to begin her day. As she looked around, however, she noticed that something was not right. There was blood on the ground! Four small drops of blood sat on the ground, underneath the toilet paper holder. And there were bloody globs of toilet paper sitting in the trash bin. But how could this be?

Stephanie ran to the mirror and looked at her face. There was no blood there from a bloody nose, and she had no recollection of either she or Jeff getting up during the night. She went into the bedroom and woke Jeff up. He hadn't had a bloody nose either. She looked at the pillows and the sheets...there was no sign of blood anywhere.

Neither of them had bled at all, and they were the only ones in the house during the night...or were they? Thoughts of robbers, thieves, or rouge landlords flew through Stephanie's head. Someone had been in their house, and they had not known it! They were in danger! Yet, there was nothing that could be done at that hour.

So Steph and Jeff went to school and work. When they returned home that night, Stephanie wanted to call the landlords and demand an answer to the situation. They were the ones that had to be to blame. The door had not been forced open, yet someone had clearly been in the house. Had they given someone the key to the house? Did they come in themselves? Something had to be done!

But Jeff restrained her. They couldn't be sure that the landlords were to blame. Why would a robber come into their apartment, bleed on the floor, and leave without taking something? It just didn't make sense.

Later in the week Stephanie and Jeff were lounging on the couch together. Stephanie was reading a book on her lap, and looked down to her sweatshirt and what did she see? Blood! There were two drops of blood on her sweatshirt!

Jeff jumped up off of the couch and pointed down at her. "Ha!" he screamed, "It was you! I knew it had to be you!"

"But, but," Stephanie stammered, "how could it be me? There was no blood on my face! There was no blood on my pillow! I...I don't even remember getting up in the night!"

Stephanie was astonished. How could this possibly happen without her knowledge or awareness? It just couldn't be. She waited and waited for the memory to return of her getting up during the night and mopping her bloody nose, but it never did.

(The man's low voice returns and says...)

And that is how our story ends. The mystery of the bloody night in the Steed household has never been solved. Did Stephanie actually have a bloody nose? Did the landlord come into the house during the night and accidentally cut his finger? Did a murderous robber come into the house at night, stand over Stephanie's inert sleeping body, and then himself get a bloody nose? Did he bleed two drops over her, then rush to the bathroom and mop up his nose, and then sneak back out of the apartment?

It seems we will never, ever, really know...

hahaha that's actually really creepy! But if you're anything like me, sometimes Mitch tells me that he talked to me in the middle of the night or that I got up, yet I don't remember it! Weird.

At least you haven't taken to blaming Hero yet!

Haha, I would blame her but we didn't have her yet! If we did though, I would know just who it was...

Loved the story. You were always good and writing those! I was laughing because for some reason I always remember you getting bloddy noses.

I feel strongly in my heart that there was some sort of house-to-house combat going on, Jason Bourne style, and an operative likely fled to your abode to make a makeshift tourniquet out of toilet paper and masking tape. I can pretty much guarantee this is what happened.

Well, if it was Jason Bourne, then all is forgiven. That man is hot!
